The violin has a back made from two pieces of plain maple.  The ribs are made of wood similar to the back, the scroll displaying a light medium flame.  The table is made from two pieces of spruce of medium width grain.  The varnish is a yellow borwn color laid over a lighter ground.  A fine characteristic example from the time of Raffaele and Antonion Gagliano, currently in very good condition.  The Certificate of Authenticity states, made by a member of the Gagliano family, Naples, circa 1830-1840 by Peter Biddoulph in London.
