Seen as the last maker of the traditional Neapolitan school, Vittorio Bellarosa studied with his father Riccardo in Naples, with Rodolfo Fredi in Rome and also trained for a few months in Mittenwald. He returned to Naples around 1930 and a few years later established a close association with Giovanni Pistucci, and is believed to have done much of the varnishing work for Pistucci. He bought the contents of Pistucci’s workshop after his death in 1955.

Bellarosa’s distinctive brand of two sea-horses appears on his later instruments, usually on either side of the endpin. He was a prolific maker and almost exclusively produced Gagliano copies. His excellent varnish is generally orange or red-brown in color.

This violin has a rich projecting sound suitable for the professional musician.
